The Washita Theatre renovation reimagines one of Stillwater’s beloved cultural landmarks, blending its historic charm with a contemporary vision for the future. Originally a downtown movie theatre, the building had long served as a gathering place for the community before falling into disrepair. Beck Design’s charge was to preserve the theatre’s historic character while transforming it into a modern performance and event space capable of supporting a wide variety of programming.
The renovation carefully restored key architectural elements, including the theatre’s iconic façade, while introducing state-of-the-art systems and flexible interior spaces. Updated seating, enhanced acoustics, and modern lighting create an environment that honors the theatre’s cinematic past while elevating it into a premier venue for live music, theatrical productions, and community events. Back-of-house improvements—including upgraded dressing rooms, storage, and circulation—ensure the building functions seamlessly for both performers and staff.
More than just a preservation project, the Washita Theatre renovation positions the venue as a vibrant cultural hub for Stillwater. By weaving together history and innovation, the design creates a destination where community, creativity, and heritage converge. The project underscores Beck Design’s dedication to revitalizing historic structures in a way that respects their legacy while equipping them for decades of future use.
The building design incorporates cutting-edge audio
and visual technologies on display architecturally, while
respecting the existing campus aesthetic. Additionally,
Beck Design undertook the renovation of the Seretean
Center—which will now exclusively house the Theatre
department.
