Grand River Dam Authority selected Beck Design to create a design for their Visitor's Center and Eco Lab on Grand Lake that featured a design connection to the art deco dam.
This two-level building includes a green design in which the geothermal cooling system recirculates water from the lake for heating and cooling of the 20,000 SF building. The building includes a visitors center and museum.

Beck Design led architectural programming, exhibit integration, and full design services—creating a space that welcomes school groups, tourists, and community members to explore GRDA’s role in natural resource management and conservation. The design blends contemporary architecture with the surrounding lakeside landscape, featuring expansive glazing for views of Grand Lake, interactive educational exhibits, and dedicated lab space for environmental research and demonstrations.
Sustainable materials, daylighting strategies, and interpretive graphics reinforce GRDA’s mission of transparency, environmental responsibility, and community outreach. Beck Design’s work on the Visitor Center and Eco Lab supports GRDA’s educational goals by delivering an engaging, accessible experience for visitors of all ages.
