McPherson College’s new Campus Corner, recently dedicated as the Wise Campus Commons, stands as a bold new “front door” to the college, symbolizing growth, connection, and a shared vision for the future. Positioned prominently along Kansas Avenue, the 55,000-square-foot facility extends the campus toward the heart of McPherson, creating a more visible and welcoming presence in the community.

The design draws directly from the site’s geometry, introducing a new diagonal campus axis that passes through a large, glass-filled atrium — the social and spatial heart of the building. Three floors are visually unified by natural light, glass elevators, and open stair towers, creating a sense of transparency and movement throughout. Exterior materials including glass, metal panel, and wood, combine to create a light, modern aesthetic, grounded by stone stair towers that reference the region’s material heritage.
The ground level houses the new dining facility with seating for approximately 400, a coffee shop, and a campus store, while upper floors contain key student-centered functions, including collaborative lounges, career services, enrollment, and administrative offices, all strategically integrated to promote accessibility and community.
A signature feature of the design is the suspended display of classic cars within the central atrium. The vintage vehicles were restored by students in McPherson College’s nationally recognized Automotive Restoration program. These artifacts float above the social space as both an artistic centerpiece and living tribute to the college’s one-of-a-kind curriculum.
