Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma Hardesty Leadership Center

The Hardesty Leadership Center for the Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma stands as an architectural emblem of heritage reimagined.

Anchored by an iconic green sash that elegantly defines the main entry, the design conveys a powerful sense of arrival and identity. The design team collaborated closely with the Girl Scouts leadership, including CEO Roberta Preston, to address both current operational needs and long-term growth, ultimately relocating to a more central site and embedding rich cultural symbolism throughout the 31,000‑square‑foot headquarters.

The design conveys the Girl Scouts’ story in subtle, compelling ways, including interior palettes and furnishings that take cues from cookie box colors. A sculptural pathway in the flooring guides visitors toward an outdoor fire pit and symbolic bridge—hallmarks of the “bridging” tradition in scouting.

Programmatically, the facility accommodates broad functionality: the first floor serves girls and volunteers with dedicated meeting rooms, a bright, accessible retail store, museum, catering kitchen, archive, and warehouse. The upper floor encompasses offices, support spaces, and a staff lounge, all framed along a luminous, skylit spine that unites modern and organic elements across the interior.

The Hardesty Leadership Center has become not only a home for the Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma, but also a civic beacon—hosting events, workshops, and community gatherings that amplify the organization’s role in shaping future leaders.
